Why fundraise for Prostate Cancer Research, especially when you've just turned 67?
Hi, my name is Jim Stewart and together with our daughter Holly, I've just signed up to run in the Madrid Marathon on 26th April 2026!
Why on earth would anyone do such a thing? Well there's quite a few reasons:
- I recently attended my GP's office following an on demand PSA test. Results were within the accepted margins for my age but I was told not to take any comfort in that, as the was still a percentage possibility that I could have the disease, as the results are inconclusive and only provide a broad indication of wellbeing. It became abundantly clear that a proper diagnosis test was needed - and urgently
- I sing in an all male Barbershop Chorus, (The Kingsmen Harmony Chorus) the average age of which is 70+. The major topic of conversation health-wise (apart from singing) are Hips, Knees and Prostates.
- I play golf at Thurlestone Golf Club in a stunning part of the South Hams in Devon and many members are aged over 65. Although quite an active bunch, the topic of conversation invariably returns to the location of toilets on the course, the Prostate and the inadequacy of the PSA test.
- Many of my fellow singers and golfers have been directly affected by this often overlooked disease (whilst still showing ok in the PSA test) and some have had their Prostate's removed. Prostate Cancer UK has been adopted by The Kingsmen by our new Chairman, Paul Harvey, as his Charity for his tenure and I'm delighted to be able to support his fundraising initiatives.
- My daughter lives in Madrid and has run the Madrid Marathon and Half Marathon so get the chance to run along side her (at least for a short while). It's an exceptional city and event and has participants from across Europe and beyond.
- I do like a challenge and I've never run anything more than a "couch to 5k" before let alone a Marathon. Here we go!
So here's my Blog, and I'll detailing my week by week attempt to get fit enough, strong enough, determined enough, crazy enough to take on one of the hilliest Marathons on the European Marathon Circuit and raise some very much needed money for Prostate Cancer Research.

All donations will go to directly to Prostate Cancer UK Research Charity.
